Calling all nonexotic and exotic veterinarians: Invitation to interview regarding Suprelorin® deslorelin hormonal implants in hens.
As both an ex-commercial hen carer and an animal welfare researcher (both via the University of Winchester and independently via MaceAnimalWelfare.co.uk), I am conducting research into the use of the Suprelorin® deslorelin hormonal implants in hens. Specifically, I am interviewing veterinarians from any western country (both exotic and nonexotic) who have heard of this implant and have an opinion on its use in hens to prevent egg-laying (temporarily or long-term) for potential health/welfare benefits.
Here is a summary of what would be involved:
- Interviews would be conducted and recorded on MS Teams (you will be sent a link) at a time to suit you; if preferred, interview questions can be sent via email with answers submitted in a written format.
- Interview duration: approx. 60 minutes.
- You will be asked about your views on the implant, your experiences with recommending for/against its use with clients, and health outcomes in hens on the implants.
- Participants will be interviewed in their personal professional capacity and not as representatives of their organisations.
- Data collected will be published as a qualitative study in a reputable journal.
- All interviewees will be anonymized in the write-up.
If interested, please email me at jenny.mace@winchester.ac.uk or MaceAnimalWelfare@gmail.com to book an interview slot.
I look forward to hearing from anyone interested and I am happy to answer any questions. Please feel free to share this with others.
NB: Chicken guardians who are aware of the implants – there will be a separate call out to you soon! Feel free to get in touch if interested, and I will note your name down in advance.
