1. Calling chicken carers with experience of the Suprelorin® deslorelin hormonal implants: Invitation to interview
As both an ex-commercial hen carer and an animal welfare researcher (both via the University of Winchester and independently via MaceAnimalWelfare.co.uk), I am conducting research into the use of the Suprelorin® deslorelin hormonal implants in hens. Specifically, I am interviewing chicken carers who have experience in using this implant on their hens (or roosters potentially) for potential health/welfare/behavioural benefits. All views towards the implant are welcome.
Here is a summary of what would be involved:
- Interviews would be conducted and recorded on MS Teams (you will be sent a link) at a time to suit you; if preferred, interview questions can be sent via email with answers submitted in a written format.
- Interview duration: approx. 45 minutes.
- You will be asked about:
-
-
- the numer of times you have used the implant on your chickens and for what reason
- your experiences with using the implant on your chickens
- the health/welfare/behavioural outcomes in your chickens after receiving the implants
- your views on the implant.
-
-
- Data collected will be published as a qualitative study in a reputable journal.
- All interviewees will be anonymized in the write-up.
If interested, please email me at jenny.mace@winchester.ac.uk or MaceAnimalWelfare@gmail.com to book an interview slot. I look forward to hearing from anyone interested and I am happy to answer any questions. Please feel free to share this with others. NB: This follows a similar study (publication forthcoming) in which exotic and nonexotic veterinarians were asked about their views on the Suprelorin® deslorelin hormonal implants.
